Thousands celebrate the Messiah's birth

Thousands of people have been celebrating Christmas across the diocese, with many churches holding extra services to mark the birth of Jesus Christ.

Pictured are scenes from Ripon Cathedral's Nine Lessons and Carols, held on both December 23rd and 24th. Hundreds packed both services, with the congregations swelled by visitors and locals alike.

Senior clergy have been attending services across the diocese. The Bishop of Ripon and Leeds, Rt Revd John Packer spent Christmas morning at the Christmas service in HM Prison, Leeds in Armley.

On Boxing day hundreds joined with the Dean of Ripon, Keith Jukes and Bishop John on the traditional Boxing Day Pilgrimage from Ripon Cathedral to Fountains Abbey. More details here..
