Fresh Expression -
'Ahead of the game'

Fresh Expressions was on the agenda at October's Diocesan Synod, when former TV producer Norman Iveson spoke about the national campaign and observed that, with the ten projects already in action, the diocese was 'well ahead of the game'.

Norman IvesonMr Iveson, who now works full-time for Fresh Expressions, arrived with a team from the national Church of England organisation, who presented a range of material including training resources and DVDs for churches trying to find new ways of communicating with local people.
He was preceded by Revd Pete Askew who gave a presentation on some of the Fresh Expressions of church developing in Ripon and Leeds.

'One of the problems,' said Pete, Pioneer Minister and leader of the Fresh Expressions Mission-shaped Ministry course for the diocese, 'is that churches may be engaged in a fresh expression of church without necessarily making the connection with the national and diocesan Fresh Expression initiatives. There's all sorts of training, support and some funding available for fresh expressions, it's also important that we know their story and share it so others can learn from it and be encouraged for work in their own churches.'
