Healing is at the centre of Christianity. The Gospels tell us about more times that Jesus was involved in healing people than in any other activity. Many of our great hospitals, hospices and other healthcare institutions were started by Christians who understood the need to carry on Christ’s ministry of healing. Today Christians work within statutory healthcare services in all capacities, work in healthcare in the voluntary sector and support the ministry of healing through prayer.

Health, wholeness, healing and holy come from the same old English stem – hael. They are inextricably linked in meaning today. God’s aim for each one of us is for us to become whole – in body, in spirit and in mind. It is our hope that each one of us will become fully what God intends us to be – made whole in his image.
Beyond our individual healing there is a need for healing in human society in families, communities, countries and internationally with the damage that is done, and the scars that are left, by war, injustice, selfishness, greed and oppression.
The Church's ministry of healing is therefore also one of reconciliation and forgiveness. Our being sorry for what others have done to us and what we have done to others; our forgiveness of ourselves and others and God's forgiveness to us all, are part of recovering wholeness of body, mind and spirit, and for healing the broken relationships between ourselves and God, and between one another.

Whether you are looking for support for yourself, for another, or just to find out more about healing we hope that you will find something here to help you. If you have any comments or questions then please do contact us.

We pray today that you will know God’s healing presence with you, that you will find healing in body, soul and mind; in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen

 St.Luke’s Day

St.Luke was a greek-speaking physician and he is attributed with writing the Gospel according to Luke and The Acts of the Apostles. He is the patron saint of physicians and surgeons. St.Luke is said to have lived in the greek city of Antioch which is in present day Syria.

His feast day is October 18th and is often celebrated on a Sunday near that.

It is common for churches to celebrate the ministry of healing at services around St.Luke’s Day. You will find links to some resources for use in such services on this website.

Also members of the Healing Task group are willing to come to your church to preach or lead the ministry of healing at that time. Please contact either Sue Rusholme susanr@riponleeds-diocese.org.uk or Sue Reilly (sjreilly@lavabit.com) if you are interested.
