DCM latest Digest: A summary of recent working of the Council
Minutes
The Council for Mission has a major role in helping the parishes of the diocese to fulfill their calling under God to show the love of Christ, to make disciples and to work for the coming of the Kingdom of God in their communities. The Council supports and attends to the work of the various members of the Mission Resourcing Team, encourages and oversees the work of various task groups and seeks to be a forum of debate and discussion on a wide range of issues as part of the overall mission of the Church. From time to time the DCM will make recommendations about staffing and resources to enhance the work of the parishes.

God’s mission lies at the heart of what the church is all about. In fact that’s why it exists. But how do we go about responding to God’s call as individuals, as local church communities and, on a wider scale in deaneries, the diocese and through specialist areas of ministry? The chief role of the Diocesan Council for Mission is to offer encouragement, resources and practical assistance to help respond to these questions as effectively as possible.
The Diocesan Council for Mission acts as a forum for debate and policy making, bringing together representatives from each of the eight deaneries and others who can speak on key areas of work across the diocese as a whole.Flowing from this, the detailed work gets done though a multitude of tasks groups working closely with an enthusiastic and experienced group of specialist ministers from the Mission Resourcing Team.
One of my ambitions as chair of the DCM is to explore ways of ensuring that we listen even more closely to what local congregations and communities would really like to be available to support them as they seek to express the good news of Jesus Christ through what they say, and do and are. At an even more fundamental level we need to help each other to listen to God, to watch out for signs of where the Holy Spirit is already at work and to discern what part we are each called to play in God’s purposes for the church and for the world.
